AUBURN — Ruth M. Harrington, 87, of Auburn, died Thursday, April 27, at her residence with her loving family by her side, following a short illness.

She was born in Farmington on Aug. 16, 1929, the daughter of the late Carl and Blanche (Dickey) Mitchell and had been a resident of this community for most of her life.

She was a volunteer driver for Community Concepts and Western Maine Transportation for many years and was honored with an award from the governor for her services.

Ruth enjoyed knitting, gardening, feeding her birds and squirrels and taking care of her dog, TJ. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by eight children, Simone Morin and her husband, Jay, of Auburn, Bonnie Fleury and her husband, Mike, of Auburn, Pamela Hardy and her husband, Richard, of South Paris, Dianna Brooks and her husband, Al, of Concord, N.C., Roxanne Decker of Auburn, Alton “Pete” Harrington Jr. of Waveland, Miss., Pennie Harrington Willard and her husband, David, of Perkinston, Miss. and Geraldine Isreal and her husband, Solomon, of Closter, N.J.; one brother, Phillip Mitchell and his wife, Louise, of Poland; 35 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Carroll Decker Sr., who died in 1963 and by her second husband, Alton Harrington, who died in 2012; three children, Joanne Decker, Carroll “Bucky” Decker and Ronald “Ronnie” Harrington; and by nine siblings.
