BETHEL — Girl Scouts for the Telstar Service Unit (which includes girls from Peru, Canton, Carthage, Dixfield, Rumford and Mexico) recently dropped off 190 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to be distributed by GRAMPS for their home delivery meal program.

Girls took Cookie Shares orders in January for the Meals on Wheels program. GRAMPS oordinator Stefanie Wilson said she was excited to receive this first-time donation of cookies.

Girls who sold at least 10 boxes of Cookie Shares received a special patch this year. Telstar had 12 girls who earned this patch: Daisy Girl Scouts Payton McDaniel and Zoey Defeo of Troop 528 in Peru; Brownie Girl Scouts Brooklyn Webster and McKenzie Boyle of Troop 498 in Peru; Brownie Girl Scout Elliot Richardson, Samantha Searles, Marley Berry and Molly Cormier of Troop 910 in Dixfield; Junior Girl Scouts Cecelia Gamache and Sayge Smith; and Cadette Girl Scouts Sonya Rocray and Lily True.

Girl Scouting teaches girls about community service by doing for others. Donating Girl Scout cookies is one way of giving back. Troops may also collect donations of Cookie Shares when selling cookies at their cookie booths.

This year Brownie Troop 910 collected donations to send more than 80 boxes overseas to the military and Daisy Troop 528 and Cadette Troop 954 collected donations of more than 40 boxes combined for the Peru Food Pantry.
