Rumford voters will be making an important decision concerning Poland Spring plans to operate in their community.

As a citizen of Fryeburg, I have seen how much my community has benefited from having Poland Spring here. Although I am a selectman in Fryeburg, I am speaking as an individual who clearly stated my support for Poland Spring while campaigning.

When Poland Spring began operating in Fryeburg, some people had reservations about a big company moving into a small community. Poland Spring has proven to be a good neighbor, a strong environmental steward and is now a notable fixture in the community.

Poland Spring has donated more than $750,000 to local organizations in the greater Fryeburg region. The company has also conserved land around their spring sites to ensure the town’s water sources remain protected.

I attended a public forum where Poland Spring outlined its plans for growth in Western Maine. It is exciting to think Poland Spring is considering a new factory in Oxford County, and I know the region could benefit from the new jobs that a significant investment like that could bring.

It is rare that a small rural town has the opportunity to welcome a Maine company with the capacity to support job opportunities and local investment. I believe Rumford will reap many benefits if Poland Spring begins sourcing water there.

I encourage Rumford residents to show support for Poland Spring as they decide how to move forward.
