LEWISTON — Lucky Lewiston.

Country singer Josh Turner will bring his deep, manly voice here Sunday, May 7, performing a concert at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

And it’s free.

The show is sponsored by radio stations 99 The Wolf and L-A Harley of Lewiston.

“People coming into L-A Harley are ridiculously excited — they can’t believe it,” said L-A Harley staffer Sara Therrien.

She’s been repeatedly asked, “Is the show really free?” Or, “What’s the catch?”

There is no catch, Therrien said.

“We just love bringing talent, entertainment and fun to our community,” she said.

The Sun Journal asked Stan Bennett, operations manager for 99.9 The Wolf and Frank 107.5, if the event was free.

It is, he said.

“It’s our way to say thank you to our listeners,” Bennett said Saturday night.

“It’s a free Wolf show, a non-ticketed show,” he said. “What that means is it costs no money to get into the show. We have relationships with the record company and the artist. They will do something like this once in a while.”

A multi-platinum MCA artist with a unique rich, deep voice, his hits include “Long Black Train,” “Your Man,” “Why Don’t We Just Dance,” “Firecracker” and “Would You Go With Me.”

His latest song, “Hometown Girl,” is cranking on the charts now, Bennett said. Turner has performed in other Maine locations before, Bennett said. Josh Turner fans “are really excited” about Sunday’s concert.

“It’s huge,” Bennett said.

But while the show is free, space is limited.

“The Colisee can only house so many people,” Bennett said.

At some point, when it’s full, doors will close.

“Lines will start forming early,” she said.

Anyone who wants to see Turner should go early, Bennett recommended.

“We’ve had folks call us from Canada who are coming,” she said.

The parking lot will open at 9 a.m. Doors will open at 5 p.m.

The show begins at 6 p.m. with L-A Harley’s own band, 2017. After that, the national act Runaway June will perform around 6:45 p.m.

Josh Turner is expected to take the stage around 7:30 p.m. and play for an hour.
