VIENNA — The bluegrass music of the Katahdin Valley Boys will kick off the 2017 season at the Vienna Union Hall at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 20.

The band has been performing since 1998 and has received the Bluegrass Band of the Year award for 2012 by The Maine Country Music Association, and in 2008, 2009 and 2011 by the Maine Academy of Country Music.

The Katahdin Valley Boys play traditional and contemporary bluegrass and bluegrass gospel music. Each member brings many years of experience and professional showmanship to the band’s sound.

All band members share lead and harmony singing. Their repertoire features tight harmonies and smooth solos. The band performs family-oriented shows that have a fresh, personal approach.

Members include Dan Simons of Vienna on mandolin and guitar; Jeff Folger, a native of Sidney, on five-string banjo; Ken Brooks of Athens on rhythm and lead guitar; and Steve Bixby of Bristol on upright bass.
