GRAY — A local district forest ranger from the Maine Forest Service will demonstrate and display the tools of the trade from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 20.
Participants will be able to inspect the ranger’s truck, loaded with 1,500 pounds of fire equipment and initial response gear.
A special photo opportunity for the kids is scheduled from noon to 12:30 p.m., when Smokey Bear will arrive to meet and greet his fans. Attendees may bring their own cameras.
The Maine Nordmenn will also be on hand for visitors to learn about Scandinavian climate, wildlife and conservation practices that are similar to those of Maine.
Scandinavian folks in full native dress will demonstrate traditional activities like wood carving, rosemaling, weaving and Viking life. A Viking ship reproduction, Scandinavian food and music will be included.
There will be a variety of age-appropriate activities for children, as well as Scandinavian baked goods and crafts for sale.
