POLAND — A vote on the $21.2 million budget for Regional School Unit 16 will take place at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, at Poland Regional High School auditorium.
The school board will meet after the budget vote.
The 2017-18 budget covers schools in Mechanic Falls, Minot and Poland.
The largest budget items include about $8 million for regular instruction and about $4 million for special education. The regular instruction cost is $51,600 less than last year, and the special education figure is up by about $406,000, an increase of nearly 11 percent.
Another of the larger items is nearly $2.5 million for facilities maintenance. It represents an increase of $15,220.
Student and staff support is budgeted at $1.74 million, mostly for technology, guidance and library costs. That figure is up about 6.34 percent.
The budget for transportation and buses is $1.45 million, down more than $117,100 from last year. Administration is at $1.11 million, which is an increase of $29,503.
