UPDATED 10:40 P.M.: LEWISTON — Police are investigating after a tractor-trailer ran over a man who was apparently sleeping under or near the truck while the driver was pulling out of LePage Bakery late Wednesday night.

“The driver drove away and heard a scream and stopped immediately,” said Lt. David St. Pierre. “Fortunately, the injuries are minor.”

St. Pierre said just before midnight on Wednesday, Michael Coulombe, 61, from Sidney, backed his rig up to one of the waiting trailers outside LePage Bakery at 193 Park St.

“(Coulombe) went to take off and there was somebody laying at the tractor or near it, to the point they were struck,” St. Pierre said. “He had his windows open so he immediately heard the scream.”

Christopher Powell, 42, whose last address was in Arizona, was taken to Central Maine Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement investigators were called in to inspect the vehicle.

Coulombe, a bakery employee, hasn’t been charged with anything at this time, St. Pierre said.

The accident is under investigation.
