AUBURN — As the Auburn Public Library gears up for its adult summer reading challenge, titled “Build a Better World,” it has announced a pre-summer program that raises one the biggest social issues of the current time.

The library will present a 71-minute film expose, “Now is the Time: Healthcare for Everybody,” which advocates for a single payer healthcare system. The film will be shown at 6 p.m. Friday, June 12, in the Androscoggin Community Room.

In 2011, filmmakers Terry Sterranberg and Laurie Simons released a self-funded documentary film called “The Healthcare Movie,” narrated by Kiefer Sutherland.

The film looked at how two neighboring countries, Canada and the USA, ended up taking such drastically different paths to providing healthcare for their people. The movie was adopted by healthcare advocates all over the United States.

Through interviews, animations and exposé, the new “Now is the Time” expose tells the story of the drama, struggle, and success of the movement toward healthcare equity.
