CHESTERVILLE — Author, translator and outdoor adventurer Bob Kimber of Temple will present a slide show detailing a 1999 Quebec-to-Labrador wilderness canoe trip at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 3, at the Chesterville Center Union Meeting House, 1 Borough Road, Chesterville.
The show, “From the Magpie River to Ossokmanuan: A 250-mile Canoe Trip through the Quebec-Labrador Bush,” describes an adventure that was dubbed by a fellow canoeist as “the trip that wouldn’t give an inch.”
Kimber’s northern canoe adventures began when he wrote an article about a Maine Guide Service couple in the 1980s and followed them on a trip to Labrador for the story. Thereafter, he was hooked and embarked annually on northern trips for the next 30-plus years.
Kimber is the author of many books, including “A Canoeist’s Sketchbook,” “Upcountry: Reflections from a Rural Life,” and “Living Wild and Domestic: The Education of a Hunter-Gardener.” He has written numerous articles for Audubon, Field and Stream, Yankee, Down East and others, and is a translator of German.
The show is free and open to the public; refreshments will be served. Donations to the nonprofit meeting house organization are gratefully received.
