PORTLAND — The world premiere production of “A Cherry Orchard in Maine” performing April 20 – 29, 2018 at Portland Ballet Studio Theater is seeking non-equity actors. There is pay and rehearsals begin March 24. 2018.

“A Cherry Orchard in Maine” is an adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s classic “The Cherry Orchard.” This comic drama tells of a centuries-old family of Mainers with a midcoast farm and rare cherry orchard that will soon be lost for unpaid back taxes. The play is set in the present and is filled with colorful Maine characters.

Some auditions will be held June 10 at 10 a.m. in South Portland. The roles being cast include:

• Anna Rankin — 17 (actress should be in 20s to play this role). Biological daughter of cherry orchard owner Lily. Enthusiastic, loving, striving to break free from the ties of home and the past.

• Jerry Logan — 44. Son of tenant farmers, coarse and uneducated but who succeeded financially and now is a millionaire. Loyal and practical but ultimately a complete capitalist.

• Peter Trophy — 29. Ragged and poor graduate student and philosopher. Former tutor. In love with Anna. Idealistic, sensitive, devoted to helping the homeless.

• Simon – 35. Bookkeeper for the farm. Bumbling, constantly experiencing bad luck. Madly in love with Dhaayo. Comic character. MUST PLAY SOME GUITAR.

• Dhaayo — 20. Somalian. Family housekeeper. Nervous, delicate, falls in love very easily with either gender. Comic character.
