WATERVILLE — Lakewood Continuing Care Center held a graduation ceremony on May 24, recognizing six local students as Certified Nurse’s Aides.
Patty Shuck, RN, director of nursing, welcomed administrators, staff, residents, family, friends, teachers and community partners to the pinning ceremony and presentation of certificates. Commencement remarks were shared by instructors Chris Miller and Desiree Knowles, Administrators Megan Stiles and Shannon Lockwood, WMCA/CareerCenter Employment and Training Business Specialist Monica Millhime, Waterville Adult Education Director Hannah Bard and Professional Development Instructor Kathleen Lewia.
A message from Sen. Susan Collins was shared with the graduates. Ben Tucker, from Sen. Angus King’s office, shared a recorded personal message to the students from King.
Students completed a collaborative program of 100 hours of Work Ready provided by Waterville Adult Education and a combined CNA classroom and lab work, and 70 hours of clinical practicum.
An on-the-job training program for 360 hours was provided through grant funding, facilitated by Augusta/Lewiston Career Centers, Western Maine Community Action and the Maine Department of Labor.The combined curriculum empowers students with the skills and knowledge essential to the specific job field.
“This graduation class is not only the result of the students’ dedication but also the best model of train to work where business, education, and workforce development collaborate,” said Patti Saarinen, WIOA site coordinator, WMCA – Lewiston CareerCenter. ”
