Car strikes RSU 10 bus in Rumford
Police interview the driver of a vehicle that crashed into an RSU 10 school bus filled with children Friday morning in Rumford.
RUMFORD — A car collided with an RSU 10 school bus filled with children Friday morning, but there were no injuries, according to Rumford Police Chief Stacy Carter.
The accident occurred around 8:50 a.m. near the intersection of Route 108 and Veterans Street.
Carter said two vehicles traveling east on Route 108 were stopped to turn left onto Veterans Street, waiting for the westbound school bus to travel by. At the same time, a black vehicle, also heading east on Route 108, came around the corner and tried to go around the two stopped cars, striking the front of the school bus, tearing off the bumper of the car.
Carter said there did not appear to be any attempt by the passing car to stop as there were no visible skid marks.
Sgt. Tracey Higley requested three Med-Care Ambulances to the scene, in case there were any children “shook up” by the collision.
Rumford and Mexico fire departments also responded to the scene for cleanup and traffic control.
