LIVERMORE FALLS — Police said a local man accused of assaulting a man in March is charged with dumping mayonnaise on the man in Union Park on Sunday in an attempt to intimidate him.

Najee White, 21, of Livermore Falls was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday on a charge of assaulting the man, Lt. Joseph Sage said. White was issued a summons in that case.

Sage arrested White on Monday on a felony charge of tampering with a witness and a misdemeanor charge of assault in Sunday’s incident. White obviously intimidated the victim because of the previous assault charge, Sage said.

Officer Darian Nadeau investigated Sunday’s assault but couldn’t find White that day.

White was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn, where he remained early Tuesday afternoon on $500 cash bail, a corrections officer said.

A conviction on the tampering charge is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000. Conviction on each assault charge carries a penalty of up to 364 days in jail and a fine of up to $2,000.
