PHILLIPS — Voters will elect five municipal officials and decide the 2017-18 budget on Thursday, June 22.

The annual town meeting will start at 6 p.m. at the Phillips Area Community Center on Depot Street. Residents will start with the election of a town clerk, a selectman and three school board directors. Nominations will be taken from the floor.

Selectman Ray Gaudette agreed to serve again if nominated.

Regional School Unit 58 Director Karen Campbell, whose term is up this year, has indicated she will serve, if elected, for a three-year term.

School board Director Amy Alexcovich, whose term expires in 2019, is moving from the area and has submitted her resignation. Sharon Dudley, whose term expires next year, also resigned, so voters will elect directors to serve the remainder of their terms.

The proposed municipal budget of $1.32 million is $6,834 more than last year.

Selectmen and the Budget Committee recommend raising and appropriating $605,297 for the Public Works/Highway Department. Voters also will be asked to approve a total of $104,629 to make four annual lease/purchase payments for three plows and an excavator, and a road bond.

Selectmen and the Budget Committee recommend entering a five-year $85,001 lease/purchase agreement to allow the Fire Department to update its old self-contained breathing apparatus gear. An initial down payment of $17,315 will be made from the Fire Department’s New Equipment Purchase Account. Subsequent annual payments will be about $13,537.

Selectmen and the Budget Committee suggest voters should support non-municipal organizations through personal donations, rather than through tax dollars. They did, however, recommend support for the Phillips Public Library and the Phillips Historical Society, the Old Home Days celebration, Conservation Commission, food pantry, Little League teams and the ATV club.
