LEWISTON — The Lewiston Public Library has announced two summer reading programs: one for teens and a new program for adults. Beginning on Monday, June 26, the library will offer teens grades 7 to 12, or age 13 to 18, and adults age 18+ the chance to win prizes, simply by reading.

Participants can read any type of material and any genre they want. If they meet their goal, measured in books for adults and minutes for teens, they will receive a special “library scratch-off ticket.” The tickets will be either instant winners or entries into raffles that will be drawn at the end of the program in August. Prizes include books, movie packs and candy.

The library is introducing a new feature for the programs — an online component. Patrons can use ReaderZone.com, a free app (Apple, Android and web-based) to record their progress. The library still has the traditional paper logs for those who prefer them.

Participants can read books, ebooks, or listen to audio books at home or on-the-go with cloudLibrary and win prizes. Summer reading will let parents connect the whole family with a shared summer experience, as well as set a good example for children and teens.

By joining the summer reading program, teens can help to prevent “summer learning loss.”

Activities for teens and adults include a photo scavenger hunt, cupcake-decorating, little dresses for Africa and soap-making.
