HARRISON — Scribner’s Mill & Homestead will offer tours of its facility on Saturdays, July 1 and 15. The grounds will be open from 1 to 4 p.m.

On July 1, demonstrations by woodworkers will include how to use a draw knife to make chair legs and how a chair is put together. Local woodworkers are invited to join with the others to demonstrate their special skill.

While on their spring tour, the Model T Ford Club will stop at Scribner’s Mill on July 15, and antique car enthusiasts are welcome to join them.

This summer visitors will have the opportunity to view the progress being made as the restoration of the interior sash saw works continues.

Tours include the mill area where dry (slack) barrels are made, the long shed where shingles are manufactured, and the blacksmith shop. The mill’s blacksmith will be on site.

Across the street from the mill, the 1849 Scribner Homestead will be open for guided tours. In the homestead barn are exhibits of early sawmill equipment and behind the barn is the reconstructed ice house with a display of ice-harvesting equipment.

Scribner’s Mill is at 244 Scribners Mills Road, south of Bolsters Mills from Jesse Mill Road. The mill is on the left after crossing over the Crooked River Bridge into the town of Harrison. From Harrison, follow the Maine State directional signs found traveling north on Route 35 at Carsley or Maple Ridge roads from Route 117. 

Adult admission is $5.
