AUBURN — A Lewiston man was sentenced Tuesday to spend 15 years in prison for manslaughter in the suffocation death of his infant son.

Danny Adams, 26, apologized to Kaitlyn Baker, the mother of Zade, their 14-week-old son.

“I am truly sorry for everything I did that day,” Adams said in Androscoggin County Superior Court. He was referring to Dec. 14, 2014, the morning Zade was pronounced dead at the scene of the couple’s 77 Rideout Ave. apartment.

The infant was unresponsive when first responders arrived at the scene.

Adams had forced the baby’s pacifier into his mouth, then put the child on his stomach in his crib and held his head down so he couldn’t spit out the pacifier.

Prosecutors had sought a sentence of 25 years with all but 17 years suspended; the defense. 12 years with all but four suspended.

Assistant Attorney General Leane Zanea said after the court hearing that she and Baker approved of the sentence imposed by Justice MaryGay Kennedy.

A murder charge was dropped after Adams pleaded guilty to manslaughter in February 2016.
