The Lake Auburn Crystal Ice Co. announces the free ticket for ice to the needy, explains its readjustment of price schedule, and tells some of the problems that confront the maintenance of the business in a statement issued Wednesday. The point is made that the monthly rate of $2 with a 10 per cent discount if paid before the 10th of the month “is the best for the company and the consumer.”
50 years ago, 1967
A Hatch Road resident called the Auburn Police Department at 1:28 this afternoon to report that a big white workhorse was trying to get into her car. Officer David Dee was sent to the scene where, in the grandest of cowboy fashion, he managed to lasso the horse, who was apparently overworked and looking for a ride home. After lassoing the animal, Officer Dee tied him to a tree on nearby property until the owner, a Lewiston resident, could pick him up.

Carry a weapon, use foul language, slash a seat or threaten to harm someone, and you’ll be thrown off the school bus for a week. That’s the disciplinary action K-13 students will face if the Lewiston School Committee approves a severity clause that’s been proposed for inclusion in the system’s transportation policy. “We’d take immediate action,” transportation officer Normand Cloutier said when he explained the proposal during the recent School Committee meeting. The clause would facilitate a match between dangerous behavior and suitable, immediate punishment, the school transportation officer explained.
