GREENE — Androscoggin Valley Soil and Water Conservation District will hold a Places for Pollinators workshop from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 15. John and Pat Schott have offered to host the training event on their property at 303 South River Road.

Presenter Deborah Perkins, First Light Wildlife Habitats, is a wildlife ecologist who partners with eco-minded landowners to create thriving wildlife habitats in their backyards, gardens, fields and farms, woods, or campuses, at any scale.

She will discuss observing, identifying, and the ecology of a variety of pollinators. In addition, she will discuss pollinator needs, environmental stressors, and how to create a high value habitat on property.

The workshop will contain a field component. Bring comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, bug spray, a hat, binoculars and a hand lens, if possible. Though all participants are welcome, be aware the ground may be uneven and could be difficult for some folks to navigate.

Workshop registration is $25 a person, nonrefundable, and is due no later than Monday, July 10. Breakfast and coffee will be provided. Sunday, July 16, is the rain date at the same time. There will be 2.0 credits available for Maine Board of Pest Control pesticide applicators.

Those interested in registering should mail a check, made to AVSWCD, to 254 Goddard Road, Lewiston, ME 04240.
