Hodak’s disabled vehicle was located approximately 2 miles away, unattended.

SOUTH PORTLAND (WGME) — Just after midnight on Sunday, an Arundel woman driving under the influence struck and killed a pedestrian.

The accident occurred at 29 Cummings Road, near the rear entrance of the South Portland Target.

Around 12:07 a.m., a 24-year-old man from Hollis was walking along the roadway when he was apparently struck by a car driven by Kristen Hodak, 29, of Arundel.

The Hollis man died at the scene.

His name will not be released until police notify next of kin.

When police responded to the crash, Hodak’s disabled vehicle was located approximately 2 miles away, unattended. She had initially received a ride to a nearby friend’s house, but later returned to the scene of the crash.

After an hours long investigation, Hodak was arrested for operating under the influence, and failing to stop for an accident resulting in death. Both charges are felonies.

Cummings Road between Running Hill and Payne Roads was closed for several hours while police worked to reconstruct the crash. The road reopened at approximately 5 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing. Police are unsure if anything other than alcohol contributed to the crash.
