RUMFORD — A vote on a $900,250 bond to pay for a new roof on Mountain Valley High School in Rumford is set for Tuesday, July 11.

Regional School Unit 10 was approved for a loan from the Maine Department of Education’s School Revolving Renovation Fund, which provides assistance to school systems to ensure that students have a safe, healthy and appropriate learning environment.

The fund is financed through the Maine Municipal Bond Bank and remains a state and local partnership, with each providing part of a project’s funding. The Maine Department of Administrative and Financial Services, Bureau of General Services provides engineering expertise, technical reviews and bidding and contract assistance for School Revolving Renovation Fund projects.

RSU 10 will only have to pay back $343,085 over 10 years at no interest.

Voting must be held after June 30 so only the seven remaining towns in RSU 10 are included in the vote and responsible for the loan. The towns of Byron, Canton, Carthage, Dixfield and Peru voted last year to leave the district.

The roof work must be completed by July 31, 2018, according to a notice on the RSU 10 website.
