FARMINGTON — The theft of miscellaneous items from three unlocked vehicles over the weekend has prompted police to remind people to lock vehicles, even in their driveways.

Thieves are targeting unlocked vehicles, Deputy Chief Shane Cote of the Farmington Police Department, said.

Some change, a pair of sunglasses, phone charger cords and other items were taken from a vehicle at a residence on Lake Avenue Friday night, Cote said. Sgt. Michael Adcock responded to the call at 10:45 a.m. Saturday.

Another theft was reported on High Street around 3 p.m. Sunday when a a pair of sunglasses and a television were taken, he said.

The third theft was reported about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday after a pair of binoculars was taken from a vehicle at a residence on Morrison Hill Road, Cote said.

A Police Department safety brochure, recently produced by Cote and Detective Darin Gilbert, encourages owners to keep their vehicles locked when unattended just as they would their homes.

Police also remind residents to remove valuable items from their vehicles.
