SOUTH PARIS — Raymond J. “Scrammy” Carver, 87, of Mexico, died early Thursday morning, July 6, 2017 at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Rumford on June 1, 1930, a son of Harry L. and Clyda (Barry) Carver. He attended local schools and later enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.

He moved to Connecticut with his family and worked there for 13 years until he moved back to Maine and where he owned and operated a small store, cabins, and campground in Gilead for many years.

After selling his business he moved to Sarasota, Fla., where he enjoyed working outside in lawn care and landscaping. He returned to Maine from Florida in 1998 after retiring and made his home back in Mexico.

Ray enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing, camping and walking.

He is survived by his two sons, Jeffrey and his wife, Bonnie of Norway, Glendon of Berlin, N.H.; and daughter, Sandra Carver of Sarasota, Fla.; a brother, Harold “Babe” Carver; a sister, Barbara Nailis; sisters-in-law, Alice Carver and Mildred Carver; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Clyda; siblings, Harry “Bunny” and Donald Carver, Estelle Patrie, and Alice Gallant.
