MYSTIC, Conn. — Maurice “Moe” A. Fournier, 67, peacefully passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 7, 2017 while vacationing with his wife and daughter in Connecticut.

Moe was the second oldest of six children to Leo and Claire (Frechette) Fournier. He graduated from St. Dominic High School in 1968 and went on to get his bachelor’s degree after serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a military policeman.

After various accounting jobs, Moe decided to settle back in Maine, where he secured a career with the state of Maine Court System in 1991. In 1993, he met his soul mate, Denise Cailler, who he married on April 23, 1994. They welcomed their first and only daughter, Emily Fournier, into the world in January 1996.

Throughout his life, Moe dedicated his time to helping others. While working for the courts, he worked with the Norwich House, an organization that gave young single mothers and their children a safe place to live and begin their lives. Once he retired from being a collections coordinator at the Administrative Office of the Courts in 2012, he began to volunteer at Loaves and Fishes of Sabattus, where the mission was to feed the hungry and help working families get out of emergency situations.

During Moe’s retirement years, he spent a lot of time with “his girls.” It did not matter what he did during his time with them as long as they were all together. He enjoyed taking naps, playing Sudoku and solitaire, and spending that quality time with his girls, family and friends who became honorary family members.

At Loaves and Fishes, Moe acted as chief operating officer. He oversaw all of the departments to make sure that everyone had what they needed to make the organization run smoothly. He enjoyed visiting each department of Loaves and Fishes every day to see all of the volunteers that he felt blessed to have known. Over the past two years, he began running a bingo hall for Loaves and Fishes, where he worked with a great team of people and met so many wonderful bingo players who he quickly became friends with.

The project that Moe was incredibly proud of, but unfortunately did not get to see the end result of, was opening a bakery, E. Claire and Pastries, with his girls. He put his whole heart into making sure that the bakery would be a success from the start. He loved seeing his daughter’s future begin to take shape and grow each and every day.

Moe was a loving husband and father. Everyone who knew him could not have asked for a more loyal, caring and giving friend. He was a man of much patience and compassion. No one will ever be able to fill the void that is now in the hearts of his family. He was loved by many and will be missed greatly. He will never be forgotten.

Moe is survived by his wife, Denise Fournier; daughter, Emily Fournier and boyfriend, Derek Larrabee; faithful companion, Love-Bug; father, Leo Fournier of Lewiston; siblings, Ray Fournier and wife, Judy, of Auburn, Jackie Dowling of Auburn, Denise Brown of Auburn, Sue Chamberlain and husband, Gary, of Lewiston, Gerry Fournier and wife, Nadine, of Florida; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; a special uncle, Chummy (Armand) Fournier of Lewiston; aunts, Mary Caron of Lewiston and Rita Comptois of Canada; brothers-in-law, Paul Cailler and wife, Joline, of South Portland and Donald Cailler and wife, Linda, of Gardiner; the Dominican Sisters, whom he held so dear to his heart; and many, many friends.

Moe was predeceased by his mother, Claire Fournier; brother-in-law, Jimmy Dowling; and brother-in-law, Dave Brown.
