A state trooper happened to be driving by when a Fairfield man’s car burst into flames on Route 3 in Liberty. He was able to get out of the vehicle before fire erupted in the engine compartment. No one was injured.

LIBERTY (AP) — Maine State Police say a man escaped his car just before it burst into flames.

According to state police, the Fairfield man pulled over on state Route 3 in Liberty after experiencing engine trouble Thursday. Police say a fire erupted in the vehicle’s engine compartment after the man exited the car.

The man wasn’t hurt but state police say his car was a total loss.
