AUBURN — The fifth annual Empowerment Forum for People with Disabilities will be held Thursday, Aug. 17, at the Hilton Garden Inn, 14 Great Falls Plaza. The keynote speaker will be Sue Wiygul Martin.

The forum, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., will include a panel speaking about navigating the challenges of having a hidden disability. The day will also provide an opportunity for people to provide feedback on the disability service systems.

The Empowerment Forum is hosted by the Five Council Collaborative, which is made of the following councils: the Statewide Independent Living Council, state Rehabilitation Council for Vocational Rehabilitation, the state Rehabilitation Council for the Division of the Blind and Visually Impaired, the Commission for the Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Late Deafened, the state Workforce Board’s Commission on Disability and Employment, and the Consumer Council System of Maine.

The event is free for people with disabilities and includes lunch. Registration is required by Aug. 10. Requests for accommodations must be made by July 27.
