LEWISTON — Eighth-grader Sydney Roy was named Lewiston Middle School’s Secretary of State Award winner for the year on Promotion Night June 20.

Team Pink Leader and Science Teacher Nicole Goyette stated it was an immense pleasure to recommend Roy for the award. Goyette said that in order to achieve the highest grades and staff’s deepest respect, Roy has demonstrated outstanding leadership and maintained a clear sense of purpose.

Goyette said, “She is consistently pleasant and takes on all assignments with enthusiasm and dedication. She displays creativity and critical thinking skills in her projects. If she misses school, she takes it upon herself to ensure she is up to date with her assignments and learning opportunities. She is not only intelligent and hard-working, but creative, easy-going, and truly responsive to others.”

Roy has attained first honors every trimester that she has been in the middle school, while playing soccer and basketball. She also plays on a travel basketball team that is headed to the national championships. At school, she also participates in Student Council, Honors Chorus and made the District II Honors Festival.

Roy has volunteered at St. Mary’s approximately 148 hours. She has also spent hours volunteering at the St. Mary’s Food Pantry, the Balloon Festival, Trinity Soup Kitchen, Pack the Bus and D’Youville Pavillion.
