I have read with great interest the many letters to the editor concerning the potential merger of Lewiston and Auburn. Lewiston has been my home for most of my 70-plus years, simply because I prefer it. However, Lewiston does not define me. It is part of my heritage, as is being French Canadian.
I have been in favor of the merger of the two cities for many years. Change is not easy, but change is important for growth and prosperity.
Voting yes for the merger is an act of faith, just as casting a vote for any politician. We are never sure of the actual outcome, but we believe it will be better.
People who still have questions should visit the LA Charter website, where they will find answers to many of their questions.
I hope others will join me in voting yes Nov. 7 for a better future for us all.
Joline Richard, Lewiston

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
