LIVERMORE FALLS — After coming out of an executive session Tuesday, the Board of Selectmen accepted Town Manager Kristal Flagg’s resignation, effective Aug. 15.

Flagg has held the position since 2011. She started working for the town 28 years ago, having been elected town clerk and treasurer.

“I have enjoyed the last 28 years immensely and the people who I work with are amazing and are like family to me, and who I will greatly miss,” said Flagg in her resignation letter. “This was a difficult decision but I have an opportunity that I want to pursue.”

Since she started working for Livermore Falls, Flagg has been interim town manager on several occasions, as previous town managers departed and selectmen scrambled to find someone to fill the position.

Now, they will be faced with the daunting task of finding someone who can match Flagg’s experience and expertise in town government.

Department heads offered their insight into Flagg’s impact on Livermore Falls.

“I think she kind of held the place together for awhile,” Livermore Falls Police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said. “I’m heartbroken she’s leaving.”

He said Flagg was a steady influence at the Town Office as personnel came and went through the years.

Road Foreman Bill Nichols also said he would miss having Flagg at the helm.

“It’s been a great pleasure working with her,” he said. “She’s done a lot of good things for the town. She’s going to be missed.”

Nichols pointed out that Flagg grew up in Livermore Falls and raised her children there.

Fire Chief Edward Hastings IV echoed Steward’s and Nichols’ sentiments.

“My experience working with Kristal is she has been a very supportive boss,” he said. “She has been very helpful helping me navigate my position as fire chief and with the Fire Department renovations.”
