Family fun day celebrates
the future of Maine treat

AUGUSTA — On Saturday, July 29, the Maine State Museum will be celebrating everything whoopie pie.  The Maine Whoopie Pie Festival, the Center Theatre in Dover-Foxcroft, and Maine State Museum have teamed up to ask Maine’s 5-12 graders: “What will the Whoopie Pie look like in 2117?”

The finalists have been chosen based on their submission’s creativity, originality, artistic skill, and clarity of the accompanying written description.  The finalists were first exhibited at the Maine Whoopie Pie Festival in Dover-Foxcroft on June 24 and will be on display at the Maine State Museum from July 25 to 29. The fun culminates on July 29 at the Maine State Museum when the winner is announced.

The public can vote online for their favorite entry at https://mainewhoopiepiefestival.com/whoopie-pie-of-the-future/. The winner will be announced on Saturday, July 29 at the Maine State Museum’s free Family Fun Day.  All five finalists will receive a Whoopie Pie Festival prize package and the winner will also receive a family membership to the Maine State Museum and $200 to be spent on art supplies and whoopie pies.

In addition to viewing creative artwork, visitors are invited to create and display their own artistic whoopie pie of the future, and of course whoopie pies will be available to taste! Come and celebrate the taste of Maine’s Official State Treat, the Whoopie Pie! Maine State Museum admission and all activities are free all day.

The Maine State Museum is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, closed Sunday and Monday. Admission is $3 for adults; $2 for senior adults over age 62 and children 6-18 years of age; children under 6 free. Maximum charge for families is $10.
