HARRISON — The Sebago-Long Lake Music Festival’s 45th anniversary season continues at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the Deertrees Theatre in Harrison with a sublime program titled Schubert’s Extraordinary Year: 1828. This is the fourth concert in the 2017 summer series.

Musical genius is on display in this concert, from Bach’s epic Musical Offering to the remarkable output of a dying Schubert’s last months to an otherworldly homage to Schubert. The effective contrast between Schubert’s simple and beautiful one-movement Piano Trio and his monumental and profound Quintet are linked by John Harbison’s November 19, 1828, an imaginary homage to Schubert in a musical journey into the afterlife on the day of his death.

The program for the festival includes: Bach, “Trio Sonato in C Minor from The Musical Offering, BWV 1079”; Schubert, “Notturno for Piano Trio in E-flat Major, D. 897”; Harbison, “November 19, 1828 for Piano Quartet” (1988); Schubert, “String Quintet in C Major, D. 956.”

Performers for this festival include: Mihae Lee, music director and pianist; Min-Young Kim, first violinist of the Daedalus Quartet; Philip Palermo, associate concertmaster of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra; Laurie Kennedy, principal violist of the Portland Symphony; Bonnie Thron, principal cellist of the North Carolina Symphony; flutist Susan Rotholz and cellist Eliot Bailen, co-founders of the Sherman Chamber Ensemble.

Individual tickets are $25, free for anyone 21 and under. All tickets are for open seating. Tickets are held at the front entrance box office and are available on the concert night starting at 6:45 p.m.. Reserved tickets must be picked up by 7 p.m. Purchase tickets on-line: http://sllmf.org/tickets/ or via check mailed to P.O. Box 544, Harrison, ME 04040.
