LONDON — Lewiston native Isaiah Harris took care of in his first race of the 2017 track and field world championships Saturday.
Harris, a 2015 Lewiston High School graduate who just completed his sophomore season at Penn State University, earned a spot in the 800-meter run semifinals by finishing in an automatic qualifying position, which goes to the top three finishers in each heat. Harris ran the race in 1 minute, 45.82 seconds, which was the second fastest in his heat.
Harris’ time was the eighth-fastest overall, and the second-fastest by an American — Donavan Brazier finished in 1:45.65.
The fastest time in the first round was run by Thijmen Kupers of the Netherlands (1:45.53).
Harris will compete in the semifinals Sunday at 4:35 p.m. Eastern time.
