LONDON — Isaiah Harris fought for a spot in the final of the 800-meter run at the track & field world championships, but a fourth-place finish in the first semifinal heat wasn’t enough to get there for the Lewiston native.

Harris clocked in at 1:46.66 for the two-lap race, putting him behind heat winner Adam Kszczot (1:46.24), of Russia, as well as Nijel Amos, of Botswana, and Ferguson Cheruiyot Rotich, of Kenya. Harris’ heat turned out to be the slowest, with only Kszczot and Amos advancing to the final with their finishing spots.

The top two finishers in each of the three semifinal heats advanced to the final, as did the two fastest remaining runners. Thiaga Andre (1:45.83), of Brazil, and Marcin Lewandowski (1:45.93), of Poland, had the fastest times outside of the top two in the heats. Andre ran in the third heat, Lewandowski the second.

Americans were shut out of the final. Donovan Brazier was the 12th fastest overall, with a time 1:46.27 in the third heat, while Drew Windle was the 14th fastest at 1:46.33 in the second heat. Harris’ time was the 17th fastest out of 23 runners.

Kipyegon Bett, of Kenya, had the fastest time, running the two laps in 1:45.02. The final is scheduled for Tuesday at 4:35 p.m. EDT.
