Mexicopoly, the town of Mexico’s version of Monopoly, is in print.

MEXICO — People can soon be rolling the dice on a replica of the classic Monopoly game made just for the town of Mexico.

Mexicopoly features about 40 businesses and comes with a full-sized board, mortgage cards, “money,” fate cards, yellow personalized cards, tokens and dice.

The board game is a fundraiser for the Mexico Bicentennial Committee. Committee member Marilla Couch said 500 have been ordered and will be sold for $30 each.

“We plan to set up at a couple of local craft fairs this fall, but if you want to pre-order games you may do so at any point between now and delivery in mid-September,” Couch said.

Preorders will be taken by committee members Crouch, Sheryl Briggs, Bob Daigle, Caroline Mitchell, Louise Arsenault, Mara Smith or TJ Williams. Payment is requested when ordering.

The committee is working on plans for activities throughout 2018.

Mexico was incorporated on Feb. 13, 1818.

A commemoration ceremony will be held, along with other activities throughout the year. They include a winter carnival, loggers day, moustache contest and Mexican Maine-iac Manhunt. There will also be participation in the Memorial Day Parade, town talent show, Revolutionary War re-enactment, craft sale, fall festival, chili and soup competitions and Christmas caroling.

The committee is looking for participants, performers, food vendors, crafters and parade participants. It plans to sell a second Prize-A-Day Calendar for the month of September. A few items are still needed to complete the calendar.

In addition, the committee has also decided to do a Mexico Bicentennial Prize-A-Day Calendar for December. All items will be Mexico Bicentennial Items and will be available for Christmas.

The committee is working to complete at least two quilts with the theme of Mexico. Blank quilt squares may be picked up from Briggs at the Town Office at no cost. Finished quilt squares will be sorted into multiple quilts. One will be donated to the Town Office and the others will be raffled.

Raffle tickets will be available at all events beginning in February and the quilt(s) will be raffled at the end of the Craft Fair in September 2018.

Bicentennial Committee meetings are held the second Wednesday and fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. The Wednesday meetings are at the Town Office; Thursday meetings at the Mexico Historical Society, 3 Oxford St. All are welcome to attend.
