Phillips Old Home Days Aug. 12-20
PHILLIPS — Phillips Old Home Days will run from Saturday, Aug. 12, to Sunday, Aug. 20,
Presented by the Phillips Chamber of Commerce, the theme will be “My Favorite Fairy Tale.”
The Chamber is looking for volunteers and contributors. Those interested may contact 207-639-4684.
Some of this year’s events include a duck derby, mud runs, train rides, bathtub races, Phillips Historical Society open house and paintings of Mt. Blue at Phillips Public Library.

Dance Band performing in August
BUCKFIELD — The Jones Dance Band will play at the Masonic Hall on Saturdays, Aug. 12, 19 and 26, from 7 to 10 p.m.
Admission is $5.
SeniorsPlus holding satellite hours
BETHEL — SeniorsPlus will be in Bethel from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at the Norway Savings Bank.
Representatives will be on hand to answer any questions or concerns community members may have about services and resources for older adults and adults with disabilities and their families.
All events are free and open to the public. Appointments are required.

Peru Historical Society work meeting
PERU — The Peru Historical Society will meet for a work session on Thursday, Aug. 17, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Peru Historical Society Building.
Storytellers Guild to meet
FARMINGTON — The Western Order of Dedicated Storytellers Guild will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month through Dec. 21 at the Farmington Public Library, 117 Academy St.

Underground Railroad talk at society
PARIS — Paris Cape Historical Society will learn about the Underground Railroad and quilt symbolism during its next meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at 77 High St.
Connie Benwitz will speak on the Underground Railroad and the use of quilts by escaped slaves to guide them to freedom. Benwitz will discuss the symbolism of the patterns on the quilts and give the history of the liberation of slaves seeking freedom in the north and in Canada.
Everyone is welcome to this meeting. Refreshments will be served afterward.
The public is also welcome to visit the Historical Society between 1 and 4 p.m. Thursdays. Members of the society will attempt to answer questions and make resources available to those doing research. The society has rich resources to help with historical questions and genealogy.
