RUMFORD — The Regional School Unit 10 board Monday voted unanimously to return half of the $658,659 in funds received from the Maine State Department of Education last month to the district’s seven towns.

Michelle Casey, school board director and member of the Finance Committee, explained the committee’s recommendation to return the money to the towns and their recommendations on how the districts should spend their shares.

The board also approved the committee’s recommendation for the expenditure of the district’s share.

“We already accounted for $140,000 that we built into the budget that we voted on (last month),” Casey said.

The remaining funds would go toward a bus driver position in the Nezinscot Region and a Mountain Valley Middle School teacher position. RSU 10’s MaineCare debt of $80,000 will be paid off and $20,000 will go toward the schools’ nutrition debt of $140,000, she said.

In other business, Benjamin Bridges was hired as a Mountain Valley Middle School science teacher. Bridges recently taught at Dirigo Elementary School.

Also at the meeting, Buckfield High School student Senaca Jacobs joined the board of directors as a student representative.

An executive session for the superintendent’s evaluation of 1 MRSA 405 (6) (A) was held at the end of the meeting. Results of the session were not available.
