MEXICO — Mexico Police Explorers Post 364, with the assistance of the Mexico Police Department, is sponsoring the Boston Red Sox alumni softball game at noon on Saturday at the River Valley Rec Park, formerly the Mexico Rec Park.
Attendees can meet former Red Sox celebrities for autographs, pictures and lots of laughs. Players who have participated in this charity event in the past include such names as Bill “Spaceman” Lee, Dennis “Oil Can” Boyd and Matt Stairs.
Local sponsors will receive complimentary tickets to the game.
Tickets will be available at the game for a suggested $10 donation or whatever someone can donate, according to Mexico police Chief Roy Hodsdon.
Food and refreshments will be available at the new snack shack.
Proceeds will benefit the Explorer program, currently in its 10th year in Mexico. The Explorers hosted a similar event two years ago.
FMI, tickets: 207-364-5686, [email protected].

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
