Hunter Safety course offered
CASCO — Lake Region and Fryeburg Area Adult Education will sponsor a Hunter Safety Course Skills and Exam Day on Saturday, Sept. 2.
The one-day skills and exam course is the next step after doing the online portion of hunter safety in Maine.

CNA course to be offered
PARIS — Oxford Hills/Nezinscot Adult Education is offering a Maine certified nursing assistant course. The course exceeds the 180 hours required by the state.
Requirements include a reading test, interview session, physical within the last year, immunization records and the willingness to dedicate time to a 15-week commitment.
VA funding is approved. Scholarships and other funding are available to eligible students.

Poland Historical Society to meet
POLAND — Poland Historical Society’s final summer meetings will plan the 2018 season.
The public is welcome to attend and give input. There will not be speakers.
The first meeting 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31; the second, 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7.
The meetings will be at the old school house at 1229 Maine St.

Rockhounders Gem and Mineral Show
AUGUSTA — The Rockhounders Gem and Mineral Show, sponsored by the Kennebec Rocks and Minerals Club, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 2, and Sunday, Sept. 3, at the National Guard Armory, Western Avenue. The hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
The show will feature door prizes, a daily grand door prize, demonstrations in cabbing and lapidary, mineral displays, dealers in minerals, jewelry, gems and fossils, geode slicing, mineral mine and other games for the kids. Children can win a mineral starter kit and get a free stone just for coming in.
