SABATTUS — Francis “Florian” Soucy, 74, of Sabattus passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 17, at his home after a very long illness with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Baker Brook, New Brunswick, on Feb. 26, 1943, the son of the late Francois “Frank” and Eva (Michaud) Soucy. He grew up in the area and attended local schools there.

After moving to Maine, he met and married Celeste Durette and the two started a family together. During that time, he worked as a master electrician at Bates Mill and was also self-employed at Florian’s Electric. He retired from Philips Elmet.

Florian will always be remembered for being a quiet man who greatly enjoyed making people laugh by doing cute little pranks. He loved fixing and creating things, and enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends, along with his daily visits to the village store. He will be greatly missed by many.

He is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Celeste Soucy, of Sabattus; two daughters, Debra Morrison and her husband, Jeff, of DeLeon Springs, Fla., and Lisa Darling Abernathy and her husband, Tommy, of Georgia; three grandchildren, Jack and Michael Morrison, and Aleigha Abernathy; two sisters, Francoise Martin of Lewiston, and Jannelle Morneault of Baker Brook, New Brunswick; two brothers, Leopold Soucy, and Omer Soucy and his wife, Marianne, both of Lewiston; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his two sisters and four brothers.
