CHAIN OF PONDS — Maine State Police are investigating the accidental death of a Chesterville man who fell off a bridge and struck his head late Saturday or early Sunday at the Natanis Point Campground located off Route 27.
Robert Clough Jr., 56, was walking in the dark on a bridge with no rails and fell about 5 feet and landed on his head, hitting a blunt object, Trooper Keith Barton said.
The bridge goes over Round Pond as it enters Natanis Pond in northern Franklin County.
“No foul play is suspected in Clough’s death,” Barton said.
Clough had been camping with friends and was last seen leaving the party between 11 and 11:30 p.m., he said.
Friends and the campground owner found Clough’s body face down in the water, he said.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is investigating and will be determining the cause of death.
