LEWISTON — The YWCA is offering American Red Cross Babysitting Training for youth ages 11 to 15. Participants will receive certification in child and infant CPR, learn the basics of providing safe and fun childcare and do hands-on activities.

Babysitting classes will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays, Sept. 10 and 17. Participants must attend both days. The course is $75 for YWCA members and $90 for nonmembers.

The Beginning to Stay Home Alone class will teach children the do’s and don’ts of staying home alone. Class topics include stranger danger, basic first aid for cuts and bruises, preventing fires and burns, and how to get help in an emergency.

The Stay Home Alone class will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturdays, Sept. 9 and 16, at the YWCA. The cost is $25. Enrollees must attend both classes to be certified and will receive a Maine safety education booklet upon completion of the class.
