A well-known Lewiston business establishment has been given a building permit to construct a new section of foundation which is estimated to cost about $5,000. Building Inspector Charles A. Buteau said the permit was issued to Ward Brothers Inc. of 72 Lisbon St., Lewiston, for work on the side of the building abutting the property where a building was recently razed. The work involves a seven-foot foundation stretching a distance of 60 feet. The work at the site was expected to start this week. Tuesday, Buteau said the wall was “pretty well reinforced right now.” The inspector noted the firm has engaged an architect to draw plans to remodel the side of the building.

Opening day events in local schools were the first to be broadcast Monday on WJLF, the new public access television station that originates from Livermore Falls High School. An early-morning wellness walk for staff members in School Administrative District 36 and the Jay School Department was taped by Harold Bucklin Jr. of Jay and was scheduled to be broadcast Monday night by the station, which airs on channel two. Bucklin was also slated to tape a skit presented at Livermore Falls Middle School as part of a joint teachers’ workshop. The project, which involves both school personnel and private citizens, is a result of a grant from the International Paper Co. Foundation titled “Jay and Livermore Falls Working Together.”
