POLAND SPRING — Turkey Hollow, the duo of Dave Rowe and Denny Breau, will hold a reunion concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at the Maine Inn at Poland Spring.

“Denny is like a brother to me. We don’t get together nearly often enough, and nothing beats doing so with guitars,” Rowe said.

Originally a trio, Turkey Hollow featured Tom Rowe, also of Schooner Fare fame, his son Dave Rowe, and guitarist Denny Breau. Dave Rowe and Breau continued as a duo after the elder Rowe’s death in 2004, but played its last official show in Dover-Foxcroft in 2006.

Turkey Hollow combines two virtuosic guitarist-vocalist-songwriters to evoke a virtual tapestry of Americana sound, with songs ranging from the sentimental ballad of times gone by to the foot-stomping, hand-clapping sing-alongs.

“Of course, Denny and I have kept in touch through the years, and still perform holiday shows every year with Phil House, but we haven’t done any Turkey Hollow music in so long! We are very excited for this show,” Rowe said.

A Maine native, Rowe grew up with folk music. With two parents who were professional musicians and an uncle and both grandfathers, he got into music at age 15.

Now, with 15 critically-acclaimed recordings and a music career that has endured some 29 years, he is one of Maine’s most sought-after folk artists.

Breau also had a very musical upbringing with both of his parents being RCA recording country artists and an older brother who was universally acclaimed as one of the greatest guitar players who ever lived. He learned to play guitar when he was nine years old and performed professionally by his early teens.

Drafted into the Army near the end of the Vietnam War, Breau was never sent to war, but instead found himself in the Army band based in New Jersey, where he rubbed elbows and even jammed with members of the E Street Band in the days before they were the E Street Band.

Since then, he has been entertaining audiences around the country as a solo performer, clinician, and gifted entertainer.
