Oxford Hills to remember 9/11

NORWAY — Members of the Legion, AMVETS, VFW Auxiliaries, Daughters of Union Veterans and members of the public will remember 9/11 from 8:45 to 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11, across from the Norway Legion.

Those attending should red, white and blue if possible and bring a flag to wave.

Rumford Elementary PTO to meet

RUMFORD — The Rumford Parent Teacher Organization will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, in the school library.

WATERFORD — The Waterford Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, at the Waterford Library.

The program will be about the library’s history, on its architect John Calvin Stevens, and on the plans for the future. Nancy Marcotte will talk about the research that John Bell has done.

The meeting is open to anyone and there will be potluck refreshments.

Rumford Area Quilters to meet

RUMFORD — Rumford Area Quilters will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, at the Rumford United Methodist Church on Linnell Street for the first meeting of the 2017-2018 year.  

Ideas and projects for the coming year will be discussed.  All area quilters invited to this monthly gathering of interested quilters.  Show and tell is welcome.

Hope Association field day

MEXICO — The Hope Association will host an End of Summer Field Day from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at the Mexico recreation park. 

The event is open to the public. Thos attending should bring a cold lunch. 

The rain date is Friday, Sept. 22.

Church collecting blankets 

SUMNER — The Congregational Church of East Sumner is collecting blankets to help Maine’s Native Americans. A community member will collect and disperse the blankets. 

Blankets should be new or clean and very gently used. All sizes and weights are welcome. Ripped and stained or unwashed blankets cannot be accepted.

Blankets may also be left on the back deck in the container marked “blankets” until Sept. 23. The Church is located at 50 Main St., Route 219.
