ENGLEWOOD, Fla. — Robert H. “Squirt” Smith, 79, of Englewood, Fla., died Aug. 24 in Eglewood.
He was born in Rumford on Aug. 18, 1938, the son of Harry and Elizabeth (Richards) Smith. He was a lifetime member of the Elks and a member of Oakdale Golf and Country Club, serving as president at one time. He was an avid golfer.
He worked for 40 years as a millwright and maintenance supervisor at Boise Cascade Paper Co. He had worked as pro shop manager at the Rotonda Golf & Country Club Links Course in Englewood, Fla., until his death.
He was predeceased by his parents; stepmother, Helen Vallee; sister, Teresa Heath; and brother, Edward Plourde.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Pauline Burke Smith, of Englewood; sons, Peter Brown of Buxton, Phillip Brown and wife, Karen of Fort Mill, S.C.; daughters, Peggi Smith Sawick (Matthew) and JoAnn Smith Powell (Jeff) of Bradenton, Fla.; grandchildren, Addie, Kevin,Taylor Brown, and Myles Sawick; and sisters, Marie Thomas of Mexico and Joan Plourde of Freeport.
A memorial service was held at Doan Chapel in Englewood.
