State historian to visit Oxford

OXFORD — The Oxford Historical Society will host Maine State Historian Earl Shettleworth, who will present on this year’s 100th anniversary of World War I.

The monthly meeting and presentation will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Oxford Congregational Church, 252 King St., beginning with a brief meeting and presentation to follow.

New members are always welcome to join the society for $5 a year or $100 for a lifetime membership.

Cancer center awarded grant

NORWAY — The Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine has been awarded a $55,000 grant from the Next Generation Foundation.

The award will be used to hire an executive director and invest in technology platforms.

Rumford Auxiliary seeks crafters 

RUMFORD — Rumford American Legion Auxiliary will hold its annual craft fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at 184 Congress St.

Tables are $15 for one, $25 for two or $37 for three. Reservations and payment are required by Thursday, Oct. 20. 

No food sales will be allowed. Breakfast and lunch will be available to purchase.

Last Greenwood Fiddle Jam on Friday

GREENWOOD — The last Greenwood Fiddle Jam will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at the old Greenwood Town Hall, Route 26.

A slow jam will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. The focus will be on traditional, Scott’s, Irish, Quebecois and contra dance tunes. Other acoustic instruments are welcome.
