On Jan 25, Brent Roaix gave a handwritten note to a teller at Rainbow Federal Credit Union on Main Street in Lewiston demanding money and stating that he was armed.

A Lewiston man was sentenced Wednesday in federal court to five years in prison for robbing a Lewiston credit union earlier this year.

Brent Roaix, 34, of 76 Elm St., Lewiston, pleaded guilty in May to a charge of robbery of a federally insured credit union. He was sentenced on that charge Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Portland. After his prison release, he will remain on supervised release for three years.

According to a news release from acting U.S. Attorney Richard W. Murphy, Roaix pleaded guilty to robbing a federally-insured credit union on Jan. 25.

Court records show that on that date, Roaix gave a handwritten note to a teller at Rainbow Federal Credit Union on Main Street in Lewiston demanding money and stating that he was armed.

The teller gave him money and he fled on foot. A short while later, local police found him hiding in a nearby apartment on Wakefield Street, arrested him and recovered all of the stolen money.

Roaix had faced up to 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release.

At the time of the robbery in January, Roaix had been a participant in the Maine Adult Treatment Court in Androscoggin County because he had committed two credit union robberies in 2014, one of which was the same Rainbow Federal Credit Union for which he was charged in January.

Roaix faces sentencing in Androscoggin County Superior Court on Friday on those 2014 charges.
