WEST PARIS — First Universalist Church of West Paris has announced its October schedule.

Sunday services are held at 9 a.m. from September to June with a combination of guest speakers, worship service committee-led services and at least twice monthly by the Rev. Fayre Stephenson. Refreshments follow the service. All are welcome.

Oct. 1: “Gaia, Mother Earth and the Oneness of Everything,” led by musician Jim Scott. The congregation will celebrate the Earth with Scott’s original songs and readings along with his personal reflections on Mother Earth.

From his work with the Paul Winter Consort, where he was co-composer of their  “Missa Gaia/Earth Mass,” Scott has been an activist for peace and the Earth with his music. Former co-chair of the UU Ministry for the Earth, Scott helped create the “Green Sanctuary” program. His “Earth and Spirit Songbook,” supported by a grant from the Fund for Unitarian Universalism, has been acclaimed by UU congregations.

A concert at 2 p.m. will also take place with Scott leading a Pete Seeger Songfest.

Oct. 8: “Is Spiritual Smugness Catching?,” led by Stephenson. She will explore the concept of spirituality and discuss what some call “having a spiritual practice.”

Oct. 15: “Finding Our Spiritual Center,” led by Maine farmer and author Jennifer Wixson, who will give a pastoral message about the need for quiet contemplation. A Quaker minister, Wixson will speak about utilizing not only her own personal experience of contemplation, but also guidance from prophets of the Religious Society of Friends.

Oct. 22: “The Cure Within,” led by Stephenson. Using Anne Harrington’s book, “The Cure Within,” as a guide, she will take a look at mind-body medicine and how it may relate to everyone’s lives.

Oct. 29: The service will be led by the Worship Service Committee.
