Terri Palmer, second from left, is feted Monday on her retirement as executive secretary for the Rumford town manager. Former Town Manager John Madigan, left, Selectman Peter Chase and Town Manager Linda-Jean Briggs stand with her.

RUMFORD — Friends, family and past and present town employees attended a retirement party for longtime employee Terri Palmer on Monday afternoon in the Rumford Falls Auditorium.

The tribute was held on Palmer’s final workday, ending 12½ years as executive secretary in the Town Office.

“I’ve loved this job,” she said. “I’ve gotten to know so many people that I wouldn’t have if not for this job. I’m going to miss you,” she told the large gathering.

“I look at all the people here who care about Rumford,” she said. “This is what Rumford is all about.”

She admitted, “I have mixed feelings about going; there’s so much left to do.”

Town Manager Linda-Jean “L-J” Briggs smiled and said, “You’re done!”

Palmer said she worked for the town for 13½ years, the first with Carlo Puiia in the tax collector’s office. Afterward, she was hired as executive secretary by then-Town Manager Steve Eldridge and worked for eight town managers in all.

Palmer will join her husband, Matt, in retirement. She’ll have more time with her young grandchildren and work on home projects, she said.
